What Shaped Living Home

I’m Jade Kerr, a process and chemical engineer, property developer and Certified Passive House Designer.

I’ve also been renovating and developing property since 2012, originally through Exquisite Real Estate and ERE Constructions, now Living Home Projects.

That experience has taught me that renovating a home is rarely about solving one thing at a time.

Trades overlap. Decisions made early affect what can happen later. Something can be installed correctly in isolation and still not work particularly well as part of the whole home.

A lot of my role over the years has been seeing that bigger picture: working through problems calmly, coordinating different trades and priorities, and finding practical ways forward when the reality on site doesn’t quite match the plan.

Perhaps most importantly, I’ve lived with the outcomes.

I’ve lived in homes we’ve renovated and developed and managed properties long after construction was finished. That means experiencing which decisions genuinely improved everyday comfort and which things we would approach differently next time.

That practical experience, combined with my engineering and building-performance background, shapes the way I approach existing homes today:

Understand what is happening first. Work out what is actually limiting the home. Then make sensible improvements in the right order.

About Living Home

Living Home is about helping people understand how their homes actually work, so they can make better decisions about what to improve.

Homes affect our comfort, health, energy use and everyday wellbeing, but most of us are never taught how things like heat, moisture, ventilation, insulation, glazing and air quality interact.

Living Home brings those ideas together in a practical, approachable way.

Living Home Lab

Living Home is about helping people understand how their homes actually work, so they can make better decisions about what to improve.

A lot of this thinking is now being explored through Living Home Lab, where I’m investigating real, imperfect Australian homes.

We measure what’s happening, work with specialists, make staged improvements and keep observing afterwards to see whether they actually worked.

Because the aim isn’t to create perfect homes.

It’s to create homes that are healthier, more comfortable, more resilient and better able to support the people living inside them.
